Traveling to places in Europe has been quite popular with travelers of UK, so far because of the propinquity of Britain to its neighbors. At this time, when people are more concerned about the credit crisis, it comes as no surprise that holidays in Europe, seem as a cheaper option than going to distant places. The diverse destinations offer you varied beach holidays, cultural breaks as well as romantic weekends; letting you explore Europe to your heart’s content.

Traveling to Europe is simple and fairly cost effecting from the UK. There are lot of options to choose from depending on where you are in the UK. Firstly you will want to decide on your destination , because the prices are affordable and there are many options, some people take this opportunity to discover a new location. If you are booking online this is even easier, because you can enter the day you want to travel and the amount of people traveling, followed by the airport you want to leave from and then see which destinations are available.

On the other hand if you prefer to go to a chosen European destination, then this is just as easy. Lots of budget airlines such as BMI Baby and Easyjet specifically fly to European short haul locations and the result is affordable flights for all! Some of the bigger airlines like British Airways will also do flights to Europe although these can cost more; Unlike with long haul flights, choosing a luxury airline may be unnecessary; the flight is so short that luxuries and extra comfort isn’t needed.

Some of the famous destinations of Europe are Italy, Spain, France, and Germany. These countries include a wide collection of airports; and you will be find one neighboring the city that you want to visit. France includes Paris, as well as the northern and southern districts. Spain includes main cities such as Madrid, however there are Holiday Islands, which are packed with sand and sun. Many airports in UK fly to these places, because they are very famous.

Don’t forget about other beauty spots like Bruges in Belgium, Prague in the Czech Republic. Well known for having stunning architecture, there are regular flights to these locations not to mention an abundance of accommodation throughout the year. Prague has one main airport that is modern and accepts flights from British Airways, Easyjet, Jet2 and BMI Baby to name a few meaning there are plenty of cheap flights to this location.

Scandinavia is a stunning part of the continent, and is filled with historical places, and many cultural traits; such as Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Iceland. You may have to look a little more to get flights to these destinations, however they are available. Easyjet and Finnair operate flights to Denmark, and so does the British Airways. To visit one of these particular destinations, visit the airlines website and look for the location to see if its available.

Flying to Europe is very popular because it is quick, easy and cost effective. With a British passport, UK citizens and easily visit Europe without any hassle or issues with a visa. Looking last minute and with cheap airlines means that there are some really bargains to be had! Don’t forget to look at specific last minute holidays on websites like lastminute.com as they can find you a cheap deal for flights and accommodation saving you hassle and time especially if it is a very short notice break. With all this help there’s no excuse not to explore Europe!

South America is a large region in the South of the USA. There are some major countries that make up the continent include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Cayenne, Peru, Lima, Uruguay and more. Spanish and Portuguese are both largely spoken languages in South America, although French, Dutch and English are also spoken.

South America is rich in culture and there are influences from Spain and Portugal due to the regions connections with Europe. South America is a great place to go to enjoy the hot weather and meet friendly people; South American food is normally tasty and there are plenty of historical sights to see.

There are plenty of flights to Latin America although in general, they are not cheap from the UK. Ways that you can make the flights cheaper is by avoiding the weekends especially Saturday for flying out, and try to take an indirect route (your operator will normally look these up for you). Airlines that fly to Latin America include Iberia Airlines. British Airways, Continental and Virgin Atlantic. Major locations to fly to include Mexico, Havana, San Jose, Quito, Rio, Sao Paolo and Santiago. There should be no problems entering the country with a valid UK passport. Some areas of Latin America are known to have problems especially for tourists so check before you go that the place you are visiting is safe.

South America’s climate greatly varies; there are a series of dry desert regions in Chile and Peru, but the weather conditions of the Amazon are humid and tropical. The hottest climate of the region can be experienced at Argentina’s Gran Chacowere; the climate can soar up to 44 degrees centigrade. While tourists the major parts of Latin America, you can anticipate sunny weather, so remember to carry sunscreen and other protections with you.

You can do a lot of energetic things in South America. You can visit Angel Falls in Venezuela. It is the world highest waterfall, with recorded height of 321 feet; which is 15 times more in height than Niagara Falls. To get a view from the bottom, take a raft up the river or enjoy more alterative views by going on an expedition. The Rio Carnival in Brazil is famed as being among the biggest, and liveliest carnivals in the world.

This is held in the early February, but you must book your flights soon else you may not get one. When you are in Rio, keep some time aside for visiting Corcovado Mountain, and enjoy the Sugar Loa Mountain Day Tour. This excursion will take you to the exciting rain forest, and you can enjoy viewing attractions like Christ the Redeemer statue, located on the mountain.

If you visit Chile you can trek to an ancient wonder of the world the Machu Picchu which is an Inca Ruin. The Incas were discovered in the ’00s but now is visited by tourists worldwide. Don’t forget your camera! South America is picturesque, whether it’s the landscape or the people.

Heathrow and Gatwick Airports in London serve the city with multiple departures every day. The city’s main airport, Marseille Provence Airport, is the fourth most trafficked airport in the whole of France. Business travelers and tourists alike crowd its terminals. Once travelers disembark at the airport, they enjoy excellent local public transportation.

It is located on the south east coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea and is the largest commercial port in the country. The old port area that was popular prior to the’70s oil crisis has been redeveloped with an investment from the European Union.

The completely refurbished Old Port is now home to hotels, restaurants, bars, and caf?s, as well as a private marina. This renovated port is north of the new active commercial port, where over 100 million tons of freight?the majority of it petroleum?pass every year. Marseille’s position as a hub for industry and trade is complemented by its excellent infrastructure for travel by air, land, or sea. It is one of the major ports of entry into France, especially popular with travelers from Italy, Spain, Greece, and the Middle East.

With its location on the Mediterranean Sea, Marseille has mild winters and hot summers. The coldest months of the year are January and February, with July and August being the area’s hottest months. Harsh, cold winds blow into the city from the Alps in the winter and spring.

It is also headquarters for the Marseille Provence Metropolis, the second largest research center in the country. Thousands of research scientists are employed at the Marseille Provence Metropolis.

But besides all the industry, UK travelers will find no shortage of museums, theaters, shops, bars, cafes, and restaurants in Marseille. Lovers of theater will be especially pleased by the wonderful repertoires of le Gymnase, the Teatre Toursky, and la Crie?. The opera season runs from September until June.

Like every other region of France, but perhaps a little more so, Provence is known for its incredible food. Local favorites include pastis, a popular liqueur made with anise and spice, once made with the now-banned absinthe. Other local favorites are aioli (mayonnaise) served over hard boiled eggs or fish, tapenades over grilled meats, panisse, navette, and the flavorful boiling bouillabaisse. Restaurants make all their dishes with local ingredients chosen because they are intensely flavorful. Many of these establishments can be found in the previously mentioned Old Port area, also the site of a fish market. The Old Port area is beautiful after sundown, and a wonderful destination for a romantic evening, but entirely safe for UK visitors.

Noteworthy architecture in the city includes the Abbey of Saint Victor, one of the first places of Christian worship in France, and the Phare de Sainte Marie, a lighthouse lying on an inlet in the Old Port, as well as Museum of Old Marseille.

With all that the city has to offer to visitors, it is easy to see why Marseille is growing in popularity with travelers.

One can visit these sites listed in the order will be in a generally eastern direction. These are all top-notch attractions, and visits to the Loire Valley is not complete without seeing them all. Each castle has a scheduled tour on a regular basis.

Chateau Amboise

The impressive castle overlooking the Loire river from the cliff top is the royal residence in the 15th and 16th centuries. French kings and royalty-known growing up here, including Francois I, as the king who then invited Leonardo da Vinci to live in Amboise. Leonardo spent the last few years of his life living and working near the Clos Luce. He is buried in the small chapel of Saint-Hubert, just outside the castle walls. At Clos Luce an interesting museum has been built. Using plans drawn by Leonardo da Vinci, a number of machines and his discoveries have been built in modern times and will be displayed. They assert that the genius of this man hundreds of years ahead of its time. In the 17th and 18th century castle fell on hard times and became a prison at one point. Many restoration projects occur from time to time, and it continues today under the direction of a foundation managed by descendants of the former king Louis-Philippe, who also spent time in Amboise during his reign.

Chateau Chenonceau

Perhaps the most famous of the Loire castles, Chenonceau include the Cher river. This is a wonderful sensation to be around the castle and see the water flowing through the river below. Two grounds boast magnificent gardens, each built by a famous woman in the history of France. One of them was Diane de Poitiers who was a mistress of King Henri II and given the chateau by admirers. King’s wife, Catherine de Medici, was not happy about this and take back the chateau after Henri II died accidentally in a tournament. Not to be outdone, Catherine de Medici gardens constructed, and this of course is greater than the garden Diane de Poitiers. Property has a wine, too, and people can taste the wine as part of the visit.

Chateau Chaumont

This Catherine de Medici’s lived during the time that Diane de Poitiers lived at Chenonceau. After Catherine used her strength to claim Chenonceau after the death of her husband, Henri II, Diane de Poitiers lived at Chaumont not for brief periods. Chateau is smaller than some other famous Loire castles, but the architectural design made it look as if emetged of fairy tales. This castle now belongs to the French government.

Chateau Cheverny

Personal favorite of this writer, the Chateau de Cheverny is unique in many ways. This is more recent than some other well-known properties, which have been built in the early 17th century. Amazingly, just a family who lived in the palace today. One saw a lot of beautiful furniture, rugs, and works of art in the grand hall in the castle tour. Property, unlike many others in the area, did not rob during the French revolution. According to our tour guide there, residents in the nearby town really helps to protect the building from destruction because the family is always good to the local population. Of course visitors are not allowed into the castle housing, but the grounds can be visited as well. There is one will find a cage that holds about 90 hunters a dog, and they were taken out on hunts twice per week in order to maintain the old tradition of deer hunting in this area.

Chateau Chinon

Chateau de Chinon is the largest castle in the Loire region, and contains more than 400 rooms. In contrast to the warmth of Cheverny However, there is little furniture and most of the rooms are empty, because the building was ransacked during the French revolution. One does not get a sense of luxury that is here, however, because the two kings Louis XIII and his son, King Louis IV ( “Sun King”) stayed here on many occasions. Before the palace was the residence of Charles VII, the Dauphin of France in the early 15th century. The legendary Joan of Arc came here to pledge loyalty to him and pushed him to declare himself king and fight to free France from England. In the last few years Chinon has become famous for the wine based on Cabernet Franc and there are many opportunities nearby to sample this wine.

The Chateaux of the Loire is one of the most popular destinations in France. Do not miss one of the great places if you go there. If you have extra time to spend in the region, there are other smaller and less well-known near the castle which can be visited, and is also impressive.

Helen Gienke asked:

Breckenridge is well known in the realms of skiing as a world class resort in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. Popular with Americans it also became a favorite to British skiers about 10 years ago, when the word escaped about the town full of character and the superb skiing.

Skiing is a very popular sport in the Uk, despite their decided lack of mountains and although there is some skiing to be had in Scotland, many Brits make the short trip to Europe to get their skiing fix. US skiing is however becoming increasingly attractive with the guaranteed snowfall and weak dollar.

Breckenridge in particular has become well known and loved by the Brits with Vail & Aspen following not far behind. Chalets USA which caters mainly to UK skiers has now opened up new chalets in Breckenridge to cope with the ever growing demand. Eagle Lodge just a few hundred yards from Peak 7 offers skiing virtually on the doorstep with no hassle catered accommodation. Breckenridge the town is perfect for meandering along the historic streets and browsing the many boutiques. Non-skiers & skiers alike can drop into the many bars & restaurants to celebrate & mull over the days skiing achievements. With lively nightlife, Breckenridge is one of the few ski resorts in Colorado that really caters to the pubbing & clubbing crowd, leading to superb skiing holidays all day & all night.

Breckenridge has the highest chairlift in North America & a great variety of terrain:

Beginner 14%:

Breckenridge boasts some of the best learning terrain anywhere. Skiers & riders will find most beginner trails located off Chair 7 on Peak 8, including a portion of the 3.5 mile Four O’ Clock run, the longest trail at Breckenridge.

Intermediate 31%:

An intermediate’s paradise, Peak 7 is home to 7 new gently rolling more difficult runs, accessed by a six-passenger SuperChair. Undoubtedly the local’s favorite, Claimjumper is located on Peak 8 in addition to Northstar and Crescendo. Two high-speed SuperChairs on Peak 9 access more than 10 intermediate trails for non-stop skiing & riding.

Advanced 19%:

Duke’s Run on Peak 8 offers a winning combination of both bumps & groomed terrain. Take the T-Bar up to Pika, Ptarmigan, White Crown & Forget-Me-Not for wide-open bowls & stunning views. Peak 9’s Peerless is a great place to learn how to master the bumps, while bump masters will appreciate 6-Chair, especially on a powder day. A quick ride up the Falcon SuperChair on Peak 10 wisks skiers and riders to three advanced intermediate groomers, steep & deep bump runs, & the legendary glades of The Burn.

Expert 36%:

Peak 7 offers vast steep terrain without the trees at a 45-degree pitch. On Peak 8, the experienced skier & rider can enjoy amazing alpine vistas from atop Horseshoe Bowl (lift access) or Imperial Bowl at 12,998 ft via the new highest lift in North America! Hike to Lake Chutes for a 55 degree pitch (extreme terrain), between 10 & 80 feet of cornice, rocks to jump & of course, fresh tracks. Peak 9 features tree skiing at it’s best. The Windows is an easy hike (anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes depending on a skier or rider’s speed) from the Patrol Hut atop Peak 9. The South Side of Peak 10 sports big fat bumps, hidden kickers and glades – all without seeing another soul (or at least many souls).

Investment Properties Mexico asked:

In the early 1970s, what we know as the Mexican Caribbean coastline today would be barely recognisable, with only small fishing towns and the odd hotel dotted here or there. But in 1974, Mexico’s government tourism development agency decided to put a name to this beautiful, and the Riviera Maya was born.

This was followed by a new highway parallel to the coast which helped lead to today’s booming infrastructure of roughly 150 hotels in Cancun with more than 24,000 rooms and 380 restaurants. This is without taking into account the 37,000 hotel rooms the Mayan Riviera has of its own, a number projected to double by 2025.

Thirteen million people pass through Cancun’s airport annually and it caters an average of 190 flights daily.

With the white pristine, pure sandy beaches that run virtually unbroken for 81 miles (130km) south of Cancun, the Riviera Maya delivers you luxury real estate, hotels, spa’s, restaurants, marinas, shops, bars and golf courses as well as romantic unspoilt hideaways.

The Mayan Riviera is not just Cancun as many people may perceive it to be, driving south from Cancun you will find luxurious, often more intimate retreats, with more space and fewer people than the bustle and bright lights of Cancun.

The Riviera Maya starts roughly 12 miles (19km) south of Cancun airport in one of the coast’s last fishing villages, Puerto Morelos. The shoreline is not as impressive as that of the white glitzy beaches found deeper into the region with turtle grass underfoot and a less clear turquoise Ocean, but Puerto Morelos should not be overlooked.

It has some excellent restaurants, good handmade crafts and artisan products. Add to that the world’s second largest barrier reef, a dedicated marine reserve, which lies less than a mile offshore. Puerto Morelos is a great stop for relaxing after the night life of Cancun.

18 miles (30km) south of Cancun airport you are into the Riviera Maya’s gold coast. First discovered by the upscale Maroma hotel, Maroma beach has perfect talcum powder white sands and turquoise tranquil water with a jungle backdrop.

Keep heading south and you will come to 593 acre (240 hectare) development shared by three hotels, hugging a mile-long stretch of coast: Mayakoba. With a 7,000 yard (6,400m) Greg Norman signature golf course and the strip of the mangrove lagoon just behind the beach dunes, the newly constructed 128 room Rosewood Mayakoba hotel has a beauty worth exploring.

Further south down Highway 307 is the lively vibrant beach front town of Playa Del Carmen. With its dedicated pedestrian zone of Fifth Avenue one block from the beach you have your choice of cosmopolitan shops, markets, local artisans and crafts, multi cultural restaurants, jewellery stores, vibrant night life and magical bars.

‘Playa’ has well established white linen beach clubs, from Mamitas, with the DJ spinning funky tunes, a laid back vibe of fusion, a fantastic menu and fire dancers, to neighbouring Zenzi, offering live bands, movies on the beach and a Sunday barbeque. On top of that is the famous Blue Parrot night club and Coco Bongo.

Playa Del Carmen has something unique to offer, so much more than those looking for an all inclusive with a swim up bar, although it also boasts top hotel chains such as RIU, Iberostar and Occidental.

An 18 hole golf course always seems to be within walking distance, or a very short taxi ride away.

Next stop south is Xcaret an aquatic theme park with an amazing night show. Keep driving and you will see signs for Paamul, now a small RV and beach camp park run on generators, it also has a small hotel. Well worth a stop, you can cool off in the pool or take a dip in the ocean after a bite to eat.

Just south is the gated community and marina of Puerto Aventuras, with Dolphin Discovery at its heart, surrounded by restaurants and bars.

Offering catamaran sailing trips, speed boat tours, parasail and fishing this is a great place to stop for activities. Take in all the boats on the marina, some you can charter for fishing trips, some privately owned, a must-see place on the Riviera Maya.

Just a little further down the coast and you come across what some say are the best beaches in the south of the Riviera Maya at the bay of Xpu-Ha. White, plush, uncrowded expanses of sand with great beach clubs such as Al Cielo, with a fantastic Mediterranean and seafood menu, massage therapists and shaded beach beds. You may have found paradise.

Nearby on the coast you will come to Akumal, famed for its turtle sanctuaries. In the summer months, you may be lucky enough to visit the Half Moon Bay area to see the turtles come up to the beach and lay eggs.

In August, you can take a boat trip or swim out from land and see these magnificent creatures inches away from you.

The snorkelling in Akumal is second to none. The reef is home to some beautiful parrot fish, turtles and puffer fish and the beach is small and busy, a great stop for aquatic culture as a day trip and with many bars and restaurants you will not be disappointed.

Our last main Riviera Maya stop is at Tulum, the only Mayan city built on the sea with the breathtaking ruins and home to some of the finest beaches.

Leading British newspaper paper, the Daily Mail, included Tulum in their top 10 beaches for 2009, calling it a “sight to behold; a temple perched on cliffs above the Caribbean Sea.”

The famous ruined Mayan citadel on the east shore of has lost none of its glory.

Travel + Leisure magazine also gave Tulum’s Wellness Retreat and Spa second place in their survey of the worlds best destination spas, in September 2009. Tulum is a fantastic place to stay with the history, culture, beach clubs and spas.

We come to the end of the Riviera Maya at the 1.5 million acre (0.6 million hecatre) Sian Ka’an Biosphere, a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, with jungle walks, mangrove lagoons and unexcavated ruins and the 22 mile (35km) Boca Palia peninsula.

A small entrance fee allows you to explore this unspoilt paradise. It serves as a model for sustainable development in sensitive tropical ecosystems. The revenue generated through tours, fishing, beautiful accommodations, and various on-site activities is used to fund conservation and education programs within the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.

The center operates using ecologically responsible technologies, including systems for wetland waste management, rainwater collection, solar and wind energy generation. It also operates educational outreach programs and biological research.

Here ends your whistle stop tour of the Riviera Maya, there is plenty to keep you busy, for a day, or for a lifetime.

Chris Chew asked:

The ski resorts of Les Arcs and La Plagne in France is surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges and both ski resorts attract phenomenal amount of skiing enthusiasts on vacation in France and Europe. La Plagne is like a space city, with its own suburban satellites and at least 2.5 million so called ’skier days’ and is arguably the single most visited ski resort in the world along with its link to neighboring Les Arcs ski resort. With so many visitors to La Plagne and Les Arcs, it follows that there are many hotels and accommodations to cater to the skiers and tourists alike.

La Plagne, is a ‘third generation’ French ski resort and it probably influenced other French resorts like Flaine, Avoriaz and Les Arcs to go for brave new world space age architecture abandoning the traditional charming rustic designs of ski resort architecture.

Skiing in La Plagne, you will encounter every conceivable permutation of piste and off piste, from exhilarating descents on the huge sweeping glacier at Bellecote (3,000m or almost 10,000ft), to delightful cruising down quiet, meandering, larch lined avenues to the charming villages of Montchavin-Les Coches, Champagny-en-Vanoise and Montalbert. In between these two extremes is La Plagne’s biggest attraction for intermediate skiers anxious to cruise till they drop in the seemingly endless wide open skiing adventure.

Having extended its empire to 10 different ski villages, La Plagne is planning to send a tentacle across the valley between Montchavin and Peisy Vallandry to form what will arguably be the third ski domain in the world.

Les Arcs, whose connection by Eurostar train terminal at Bourg St. Maurice makes it the most accessible high-altitude French resort and has always been at the cutting edge of skiing and snow boarding. It pioneered ’ski evolutif’, a technique for fast learning by progressing quickly from very short skis to longer ones. It became the principle home of the Kilometre Lancee in which daredevils on huge 237cm or 8 ft skis, clad in thin aerodynamic plastic suits and ‘Darth Vader Star Wars’ style visors, speed down a special track at breathtaking speeds of about 240kph or 150mph.

Similar to La Plagne, Les Arcs has acres and acres of good cruising and its off piste opportunities are simply fabulous. The Aiguille Rouge, which dominates the resort has many challenging runs down its front face and is also the starting point for one of the longest skiing descents in the French Alps. The largely black run down to the charming village of Villaroger is over 16km or about 10 miles long. Can you beat that!

With such wonderful skiing opportunities, is it any wonder why La Plagne and Les Arcs ski resorts claim to attract the most holiday vacation skiers not just in France but in the world as well?

Nick asked:

Austria is a landlocked country in central Europe rich in history and culture. The population of Austria is over 8 million who reside in an area covering 88,872 square kilometers. As with the most of modern day Europe, Austria’s currency is the Euro. Its capital is Vienna and has around 1.7 million inhabitants, other well popular tourist destinations for visitors include Salzburg and the various ski resorts.

Vienna has a rich history of culture and architecture which is guaranteed to keep visitors intrigued for their entire vacation. Whilst staying in a Vienna bed and breakfast accommodation, visitors can encroach into the city and explore its architectural genius which boasts a wide variety of styles and influences such as classicist and art nouveau with a nice blend of modern buildings. Vienna is also a hub for its long standing tradition in the fields of music, theater and opera, the Burgtheater is in particular a great attraction for theater lovers. Vienna is also well known for its opera houses where classical concerts take place throughout the year, it really is a privilege to attend one of these spectacular concerts. Many flamboyant Viennese balls take place in the city; in particular the State Opera building hosts the official annual ball. Vienna also has numerous museums for visitors to enjoy, devoting themselves to fine art, architecture, culture, music or even individuals. Staying in a Vienna apartment rental building in the heart of the city is a big advantage for tourists.

Salzburg is another beautiful Austrian city boasting some of the best examples of baroque architecture in the world. It is well known for its stunning

setting as it is overlooked by the towering Alps. Throughout the city there are cultural, historical and architectural sights to visit, not to mention the variety of museums and interesting locations. Salzburg bed and breakfast accommodations make visitors feel at home in this fantastic city.

If sight seeing and city vacations are not your thing, don’t worry as Austria has some of Europe’s best ski resorts. Thousands of tourists every year take to the slopes and stay in nearby locations such as Zell am See. This aspect of Austria gives them a whole new look and two sides to a great country. Zell am See cabin rentals and Zell am See bed and breakfast accommodations make you feel at home so you can get on and enjoy your skiing.
